Pope Francis once said, “The Church needs YOU. YOUR enthusiasm. YOUR creativity and the joy that is so characteristic of YOU.” Too often, I think people tend to overlook that call going right to the automatic response, ‘I’m just too busy for one more thing.’ God, however, blessed YOU with a set of unique talents and He wants YOU to share those with others. So before the automatic response kicks in, please prayerfully consider how God might be calling YOU to use the talents He gave YOU in some of the ministries at St. Mary’s that could use YOUR help.
Do you have a gift for sharing your faith and teaching young children? If so God might be calling you to help with our Sunday morning Faith Formation program or Children’s Liturgy at 8 am Mass. Has God blessed you with the ability to pray and encourage others? Maybe God is calling you to be a Secret Prayer Disciple!
He is calling YOU to use your gifts, but will you answer?
Children’s Liturgy – Those who volunteer with Children’s Liturgy help our young children pre-school – 1st-grade learn more about Jesus through the Sunday readings. These volunteers are with the children for about 15-20 minutes where they read and discuss the Gospel story. Volunteers can commit to helping once a month or as often as they would like. This is also a great ministry for parents of young children, as you can bring your children with you. Join us Monday, Aug. 12 at 6:30 pm in the Fellowship Center to learn more about this ministry!
Catechist for Faith Formation – Our Catechists are individuals who love their Catholic faith and want to share it with others. The most important quality a Catechist should have is love for God and joy in the Gospel. Our young people can tell when someone is in love with their Catholic faith and wants to share that love of God and understanding of the faith with others. There are a variety of resources available to help new and returning Catechist, including myself. I am here to help! We are currently in need of a 2nd, 5th, and 6th grade lead Catechist as well as assistant Catechist and substitutes. Please prayerfully consider answering this call to share your faith with our youth. Join us Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 6 pm in the Fellowship Center to learn more about this ministry!
Secret Prayer Disciples – Last year we started this new ministry, where adult parishioners would be partnered with an incoming freshman from our parish. The Secret Prayer Disciple would commit to praying for the student through the school year, ideally all four years of high school. In addition to praying for the student, they would send anonymous notes to the student 3-4 times a year encouraging the student and reminding them that someone was praying just for them! This ministry is not a big-time commitment and can be done from the comfort of your own home. We currently need, seven new Secret Prayer Disciples. If you are interested or want more information please contact Samantha at email@example.com.
How is God calling YOU? Please prayerfully consider answering the call to share your talents and help out in one of these meaningful ministries. Or if you know someone who has the gifts needed for any of these ministries, consider telling them that you think they would be great Catechist, Children’s Liturgy volunteer, or Secret Prayer Disciple!
God is calling us each to something special. I pray that YOU answer that call, and help build up His kingdom!
